Artist Bio
I use my love of color and shape to inform my fused glass work. I create pieces in various ways that are both functional (food safe) and artistic. I draw designs on glass and embellish with glass enamels/colored inks before firing. I also create pieces using a traditional layered glass method. I focus on nature with my hand drawn items and use other design elements in my layered pieces. Many of my images are influenced by my photography.
About the Studio
My studio is in a quiet and charming older city neighborhood. Upon entering my back yard through double gates on the north side of my home, visitors will view my studio with it's covered porch set well back and surrounded by my studio garden.
What to Expect
I will demonstrate the methods I use to create the hand drawn pieces - including cutting glass, the pen and enamel ink process works, and explain the step by step process of kiln firing, fusing and slumping (to achieve the final shape). For the layered technique I will demonstrate the way in which I cut and assemble pieces, what type of glass is used to embellish the items, and explain the ensuing process for fusing, and slumping. The kiln will contain pieces in various stages of completion to illustrate the stages, since it is a multi step process that takes several hours and multiple firings to complete.
