Artist Bio
Veronica Villasenor is a ceramic artist with a background in biology from Kharkiv National University, Ukraine, and more than two decades of experience as a wildlife conservation practitioner. She also holds a postbaccalaureate degree in ceramics from the University of Florida. Drawing from her multicultural experiences across Mexico, Ukraine, Bolivia, and the USA, her work explores themes of migration, interconnectivity, and the intricate web of dependencies within nature. Through her meticulously sculpted ceramics, often featuring emblematic animals, she aims to raise awareness of the mutual dependence among species and the vital importance of freedom of movement.
In her art, Veronica incorporates traditional techniques from the rich heritage of animal sculpture in ceramics. By focusing closely on the gestures of her subjects, she enhances their majestic qualities through the use of color, intricate patterns, and textures.
About the Studio
The studio is located within our home at the NW side of the city. It is a personal space shared with my husband. We have the essentials for creative work on a small scale, away from mass production. The view of a nature reserve protected by the city of Gainesville provides the ideal environment for our creative work.
What to Expect
To demonstrate my process, I will display several pieces at different stages of development, along with my sketchbooks.
